Temple Worthiness
PoeticIntensity

Continuing in the tradition of weekly fasting, church this week was very enlightening.  Sarah and I decided to go to a new "marriage and family" class instead of the usual gospel doctrine lesson, and I'm quite glad we made that decision. Lately, temple worthiness hasn't meant much to me.  There's more to that story, but that's...

A couple of days ago, I wrote a post about failure and innovation.  I had just seen the movie "Meet The Robinson's" which is a movie all about creativity, failures, leaving the past behind you, and always looking forward. Well...  Orson Jones gave a pretty incredible link in the 1 comment in that post. The comment containe...

Is Linux Really More Secure?

I've been using Linux now for long enough to have heard just about all the facts, opinions, babblings, and flame-wars about Linux security vs. Microsoft security. *sigh* It seems that every time I try to explain to people the added security inherent to Linux, they have all sorts of explanations why my explanations are bogus.  Some of my ...

I saw a good movie the other day.  It's called "Meet The Robinsons". If you haven't seen it yet, and you like movies which actually have a moral (kind of tough to find now-a-days), I'd highly recommend it. A specific part of the movie caught my attention and is the cause for this entry.  The part basically consists of a li...

Steve Ballmer At His Best
PoeticIntensity

About a month ago, I came upon this video, which you simply must watch.  It's basically a re-make of videos previously posted about a pretty animated Steve Ballmer (Microsoft's CEO) put to music, and hacked up beautifully. At the time I watched it, I didn't think much of it.  It was funny, and it was Steve Ballmer.  Hooray. But...

Hehe....  I was looking at this site yesterday while I was browsing around my new RSS feed stuff.  I didn't get past game number 4. I've never been one to spend a lot of time playing online flash-based games, but I have to admit, Desktop Tower Defense is pretty darned amazing.  Amazingly addictive, I mean. What do you get when you mix a couple of black lights, a fog machine, a strobe light, a dark hallway, and a couple of demented minds with Halloween?  I'll tell ya what you get: A whole lot of scared teen-agers. WOOOO HOOO!!! With the debut happening just last year, there hasn't been a whole lot of time for refinement, but all things cons...

Laws vs. Common Decency

I just got done following this story and it's got me thinking about some of the problems we have in today's society. I'm not quite as empassioned about this as I thought I would be, but rather, I find myself thinking about the problems caused by people's thoughtless actions. Is it wrong to voice your opinion about your disgust at the military...

So lately I haven't had any major projects going on involving programming, and I started to miss it, so I decided to act upon a thought I had about a month ago. That thought consisted of me wanting a definitive answer to my almost 10,000-photo collection of digital images which seems to keep growing, and staying totally unorganized. So, two day...

I just spent some time with my sister Chloe.  It is always fun to be with her.  She cracks me up.  Jovie, my new little niece, is so cute.  She smiles all the time and has the most kissable cheeks.  We went to Arby's for lunch and the people working today were very strange, but the food was still good.  On another not...

So...  I remember Nephi coming back to his own people and seeing them in a state of wickedness, but I didn't remember that he had just been on a mission where everyone in the land northward rejected his word, too.  That would be an incredible test of faith in an of itself.  Only the most stalwart followers of God, in my view, could t...

Reading the beginning of this chapter, I knew this was where the Lamanites and Nephites would enter into free commerce with one another.  When everyone is living by the same righteous standards, there is no need for distrust, or geographical boundaries, or anything else which comes from people living selfishly.  Honest living of the Gospe...

Jarom, for some reason, didn't seem all that inspired to me, this time around. The only thing which caused me to question was verse 2. To me, it seems that Jarom didn't want to write "much" for two reasons:  1. Because the plates are small, and 2.  They are being written for the benefit of the Lamanites. I guess I can u...

Not sure why this caught my attention this time, but doesn't it seem a bit weird that Mormon was carried by his father when he was 11 years old?  It seems like he was carried on somewhat of a journey, too - to a different land.   Maybe his father was quite big and could accomplish such a task, because an 11-year-old isn't small enough to ...

Great Sunday!

Ya know...  Today was a good Sunday.  In church, we learned about trials, and the nature of them - why God gives them to us, and why we need them.  D&C 58 1-4 is a great reference if you're looking for some good stuff on trials.  We talked a lot about Zion's Camp, and the general tendency the early saints had toward generati...

So, last night we finished recording the first two songs from a band called Fatigi.  One of the best recording sessions ever. So, on Tuesday evening, Adam, Christian, and Robert came in, with drums in hand, ready to get to work. We tracked drums first, which, for my studio, is rare - mostly because drums can get monotonous with nothing b...

Today was a good day.  I didn't get enough sleep, so after our work lunch party, which enabled us to eat large amounts of Korean food (seasoned beef 'n' stuff wrapped in lettuce was good, but I didn't like the "kimchi" which was nothing more than hot and spicy rotten cabbage), I felt a bit tired...  Too tired to work. We just got back from a wonderful dinner at The Old Fisherman's Grotto on Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey California. The halibut was quite wonderful, but not nearly as good as the side-dish of clam chowder I got.  It really was fantastic. If you're ever in Monterey, CA, you simply have to get a bowl of that chowder.  It's quite amazing....
