Job Security

I've been pondering on how I am to write about this without seeming haughty or prideful, because quite honestly, I feel nothing more than blessed beyond words. When I was offered this job, it just felt right.  Six months previous to my being offered this job, I was offered another job in SLC which seemed right in every aspect but the fact th...

Reading this talk from Bish H. David Burton really made me feel good.  It brought the Spirit of God into my little work office and made me realize how much good there is to be done in the world. I personally had no idea the church was doing so much to help so many people.  I knew of some major disasters in which the church lent a huge h...

FCKeditor Javascript Error Patch

The new FCKeditor version 2.6 seems to have a bug which for me was quite hard to track down. I use PHP to interface with it, so the bug which causes images uploaded via the quickuploader is found in the editor/filemanager/connectors/php/io.php file on line 291. The error reported by firebug is: uncaught exception: Permission denied to ...

Gen. Conf. - Heed The Prophet - Cook

I just finished reading the first talk given during the Priesthood Session of conference. Elder Cook talks of the need to give heed to the words of our prophets. I think of the things in my life I'm doing wrong, and I feel the truth in his words.  I need to heed the prophet's counsel more earnestly in many areas of my life. I think of th...

I've been needing to write a bit more about what's going on in my life lately, so... I'll give it a try this evening. First, you'll notice by the video above that yesterday morning a sad event occurred. No, my cat didn't die. No, my computer didn't fry. My mohawk went bye-bye. Yup.  I woke up yesterday morning and just couldn't ...

FFmpeg Webcam Video in Linux

Okay...  I've been wondering how to do this for quite some time, and I finally figured it out with the help of this mailing list thread. I've always thought ffmpeg was a pretty amazing program, but now, I will build a shrine to it and worship it weekly. Ffmpeg is the program which allows me to create a video with sound in Linux. I hav...

m4a audio conversion in Linux

Today, an audio file was sent to me in an email.  This audio was compressed and encoded using the aac codec for compression and wrapped in m4a.  In order to use it, I had to convert this file to a wav format.  Usually, I receive files in mp3, ogg, or flac file types, and use lame, oggdec, or flac to decode them back to wav.  Wit...

So, before I even begin reading this chapter, I've gotta say that this is one of those chapters which is seriously deep in doctrine.  I could probably spend the better portion of 2 or 3 days studying this one.  That said, I don't have much time to spend now, so I'll get as far as I can. Verse 1 : An "exceedingly high mountai...

Once quite awhile ago, my brother came to me and asked me why we go to church, and where is the doctrine concerning church attendance.  In addition to Moroni 6 : 4-6, I also gave him Alma 6 : 6. Other than that, this seems to just be a transition verse from preaching in Zarahemla to preaching in Gideon. It also speaks about membership of t...

In response to this talk, I catch myself wondering how many degrees off I am.  Everyone makes mistakes, and I know the mistakes I make, and I wonder how far I am from the iron rod. I'm fairly certain I can figure this out quite easily through prayer, and if need be, receive the needed help to get back to where I should be. Good solid talk,...

Old Fisherman's Grotto

We just got back from a wonderful dinner at The Old Fisherman's Grotto on Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey California. The halibut was quite wonderful, but not nearly as good as the side-dish of clam chowder I got.  It really was fantastic. If you're ever in Monterey, CA, you simply have to get a bowl of that chowder.  It's quite amazing....

Well, I'd say last week was a success for the progress of the studio!  I'd also say it was a pretty big failure for the state of my body.  Man, I'm getting old.  Even my 70-year-old dad out-did me, and that's just sad.  Even though my fingers are swollen, and my feet hurt, I've gotta say it was 100% worth it. We started ...

I just got done watching and reading the talk given by Elder M. Russell Ballard, and it caused me to ponder my wife, quite a bit. Boiled down, the talk was given on how much mothers do, and how much we, as husbands, need to appreciate them. I certainly hope that I'm appreciating Sarah enough.  Heaven knows I've been in Elder Ballard's plac...

Man.... No wonder we're all so screwed up in this life. If someone out there honestly does not think he or she is screwed up in some manner hasn't really lived. :) The whole reason for my saying this is the very essence of my life. The first thing I noticed this time, is that apparently, Helaman had never had any proof of the existence of the plates of gold Alma and the previous prophets were writing on.  Not entirely sure why that caught my fancy this time, but it did.  I guess keeping the historical records was a pretty sacred thing back then.  I wonder if th...

Wow... Three entries in a matter of a couple of hours.  I guess I've got a lot to write. I believe I remembered something else which just might...

I wasn't planning on writing about this chapter this time, but something which kind of makes me wonder stood out to me this time. Ya know...  After reading this through, with the previous chapters I've read in mind, I think I'm understanding a bit more about what Abinadi is talking about. Reading this chapter with Mormon talking quite frankly to the reader of his book is really quite inspirational.  The later verses of this chapter would be ones to really dig at and lean into every word which is written.
