Okay... I've decided I'm going to get a little more serious about recording music. I've had quite a few positive comments made about my recordings from 3rd parties, and over the years, I've enjoyed recording it more and more.
So now, I'm here with approximately $200.00 to spend, and I think I'm going to get some overhead mics for my drums. I'm reading reveiws all over the place right now, and I think I'm going to use this post to lay out my general research until I make up my mind on which mic I should buy.
If you have any experience with overhead mics on the cheap, please chime in. So far, here's the battle:
- MXL 604 - Great reviews - $99.99 per mic on Zzounds. (Compared with the SM81LC - almost as good)
- Shure SM81LC - Fantastic Reviews all around - $349.95 on Zzounds.
- Audio Technica AT4040 - Great Reviews all around - $300.00 on Zzounds
- Audio Technica AT4041 - Great Reviews - Small Diaphragm - $419.95 for two at Zzounds
- Oktava 012 - great reviews, but can't seem to find much info about where to buy em' new.
Okay... It's just about 1:00am now. I've gotta go to bed. For now, I'm leaning toward either the MXL 604s or the AT4041's. More to come on this, for sure. Man, there are a ton of mics to choose from. Gah...
