Mosiah : 11
Ya know... The first thing that hit me while beginning this chapter was this: How in the world did Noah get selected to be king?
I mean, really. Verse 1 lets us know Zeniff had at least two sons. Could his other son be that much worse than Noah was? Burning a prophet of God at the stake? C'mon...
I would really enjoy a little insight as to why Zeniff felt it necessary to confer his kingdom on Noah. There had to be a better person than him. There just had to be.
Yup... Took out all his dad's priests who were just and replaced them with his own corrupt buddies. So far, so good. Spending time with harlots... yup, yup, great choice for a king.
Man... This is a great chapter for learning what a person is who should NOT be appointed king of an otherwise righteous people.
The Abinadi comes in, tries to warn the people through the revelations of God, and they want to kill him.
Another noteworthy nugget is that only 10 years had passed between Noah's being appointed king, and Abinadi's coming to warn them of their destruction. I guess it doesn't take that much time to get really wicked.
