Mosiah : 10
The first thing I noticed this time reading this was that even though the Nephites under Zeniff were at a time of peace, after the war, Zeniff was diligent in continuing his building of weaponry. Not sure why that struck me this time, but the very first verse jumped out.
Maybe it's because they didn't make any assumptions about their enemy. Maybe it's because we're at war right now with terrorists, and we should be arming ourselves to the teeth in anticipation of what they might do...
Anyway.. Verse 1 was interesting. Let's continue.
Verses 12 - 17 amaze me. Maintaining hatred as a way of life seems like no life I would at all be interested in. For 400 years (and more) the Lamanites taught their kids to hate the Nephites to the point they were willing to instigate war and die - just to kill them. Amazing. Absolutely amazing. That whole train of thought is so foreign to me. I cannot imagine having such a vitriolic hatred running so far in my veins, and in my ancestry as to believe that my life exists so that I can have hope to kill another race.
Man... Satan really does want our souls. He certainly had a stranglehold on the Lamanites of that time. Heh... Going to war simply because I believe that my great great great great great (how many "great"s?) grandfather was wronged by his brother.
Insanity.
And now comes the wondrous King Noah. Grrreat. *sigh*
