While reading this chapter, the first thing that stood out to me was a misconception I've had about Zeniff going back to the land of Nephi.
I thought, until about 10 minutes ago, that Zeniff tried to go inhabit the land twice, when in reality, the first time he was by the Lamanites, he was spying on them. Nothing too earth shattering, just a misconception on my part.
But having that epiphany brought on another thought, which is, "How often do we read words in scripture that aren't really there?"
I mean... How in the world did I get the idea that Zeniff had tried to inhabit the land twice? Hmm....
Another verse which caught my eye was what caused Zeniff and his people to come unto God after they had dwindled a bit...
Verse 17 states, "
for we were awakened to a remembrance of the deliverance of our fathers."
It seems that remembering what the Lord has done for us and our ancestors is key to maintaining our spirituality.
The promise in Moroni 10:3-5 has almost a half a verse dedicated to this very thing. Interesting to find
the results of doing a search for "remember fathers" at lds.org. Seems there really is something to the whole remembering of our ancestors.
