Microsoft Cares ... Really.
No, seriously, people...  Microsoft really does care....  loads and loads of caring!

They care so much ABOUT MONEY it makes me sick.

I just got done reading this article and I'm left with a feeling of sickening "awe" at how greedy Microsoft really is.

Lately, I've been following a story about a group of people in a project which makes low-cost laptops specifically designed for children in poverty-stricken countries.

What's the motivation behind this effort?  Well, due to my research on this project, I'm led to believe that at least the majority of the motivation behind the OLPC project is serious concern for the children themselves.  The entire project is based on the premise of getting technology to children who otherwise would have next to zero chance of ever knowing anything about the world around them.

Enter Microsoft.

What does Microsoft care about?  They care about getting rich.  Now, don't take that the wrong way.  I'm definitely not a bleeding heart who thinks anyone with more than a thousand dollars in the bank is depriving some endangered species the right to live.  Nope...

I'm all for capitalism.  I'm all for a level of comfort in life.  I also believe in the unconquerable human spirit.....  But that's all for another entry.  Anyway...

Even though I'm 100% for capitalism, I believe anyone with tens of billions of dollars in the bank who is still concerned about a couple hundred thousand dollars while "donating" to an effort to teach kids how to use a computer, is nothing but seriously deficient of any level of charity.  Crimoney sakes, guys...

When Microsoft says that they're willing to donate money to schools, only if they're using Microsoft products tells me they're not concerned at all about the kids.

They're concerned about entrenching the world within the Microsoft monopoly and ensuring the extreme bling future of all the executives there.  Period.

*sigh*

Sometimes I'm amazed at stuff Microsoft does.  This time, it's no surprise at all.

The only thing Microsoft cares about is itself getting richer.

Oh, and did I mention that as soon as Microsoft found that the OLPC project was having any degree of success, they quickly became interested in putting Vista on there.  As soon as they realized the absurdity of that thought, they hired a bunch of henchmen to try to get XP as small as possible, so it would work.

A comment made by Microsoft concerning why Microsoft would be a better fit than Linux made no sense at all:

"Making the laptop compatible with XP would give students in poor countries access to 'tens of thousands of existing educational applications written for Windows,' said James Utzschneider, a Microsoft general manager"

Yup... I guess Linux has no educational software at all.  Might as well use a better operating system.

Freakin' greedballs.

I am always look for educational software to run on Gnu and there is not a lot and I don't mean abiword, think more like Guido von Robot or kidsplay. A while ago I found out about "rocky's boots" which runs on DOS as well as lots of other older software created in the 80s and 90s that runs on DOS. Of course GNU systems can run DOS, so at least that adds some more educational software.  So I dont see the need for XP or Vista but DOS maybe. And of couse M$ was not the only one to make it, so no permission needed there.
