I'm not entirely sure how to begin this post, but I'm just sitting here kind of wagging my head back and forth in disbelief.  I hope this is at least exaggerating. With everyone blathering on about how wonderful Windows 7 is, Microsoft hasn't changed a bit. Before I begin, let me just say how wonderfully reassuring it is to be using Linux ...

Although I've got quite good at it, I've been in web development for too long.  My passion has always been in music, and it's about time I did something about it. Knowing that I need to keep my family safe, and having been bitten some by risky endeavors, I'm taking baby steps at first, but it's now official. Advanced Budget Studios is offi...

Okay...  Quick story... Last Thursday, I was looking around the Internet for a great deal on a new pre-amp I want for my studio.  Happens that about 2 hours into searching, I found a deal almost too good to be true.  I found my 8-channel Focusrite Platinum Octopre for $300.00 less than anywhere I could find ($400.00 less than retai...

Okay...  So three days ago (that would be Saturday morning), I found that my server was having weird problems.  I was getting an I/O error when I tried to start a movie for my daughter.  Yeah, that can't be good.  I'd seen that problem before when LVM got out of sync somehow (after about 6 months of uptime), and decided to reboo...

Okay..  I have no idea why I'm writing this, but to heck with it.  People should know.  Either that, or I need to figure out what the hey I'm doing wrong. So, about a year ago I began a crusade to help AMD / ATI as much as I possibly could.  I've already been buying AMD processors now for at least 5 years for myself, my work,...

Okay...  I've decided I'm going to get a little more serious about recording music.  I've had quite a few positive comments made about my recordings from 3rd parties, and over the years, I've enjoyed recording it more and more. So now, I'm here with approximately $200.00 to spend, and I think I'm going to get some overhead mics fo...

First thing out of the gate that I noticed this time around with this chapter is that the first thing Alma says to Corianton regards his disobedience - in a possibly sarcastic way, or at very least - sincerely displeased.  "Haven't your brothers been a good example for you?"  Anyway... I found that interesting Also noteworthy ...

Today, an audio file was sent to me in an email.  This audio was compressed and encoded using the aac codec for compression and wrapped in m4a.  In order to use it, I had to convert this file to a wav format.  Usually, I receive files in mp3, ogg, or flac file types, and use lame, oggdec, or flac to decode them back to wav.  Wit...

Of course, verse 1 immediately reminds me of verse chapter 36 and what I wrote about that.  But then, verse 2 held just as much interest for me.  First off, it seems that Alma talking to his three sons in these chapters has something to do with his being old enough to die at any time.  Yet, Alma's words talk about him having great jo...

I just got done reading about and listening to a wonderful audio-bite from good ol' Steve Ballmer.  Honestly, I don't understand why Microsoft keeps him employed. Anyway...  According to Mr. Ballmer, Linux is no longer free.  So, with that in mind, please do not try to download Linux from here, or here, or here, or here, or here, o...

So, I just got a new Logitech C910 web cam, and when trying to join or create google hangouts, I couldn't see myself in the stream at all, nor anyone else's.  I can hear everyone, and everyone can see me, but I can see nobody, nor myself.  I found this gem of a site with a very easy solution. I'm using gentoo Linux, and this simple tric...

Since I created this blogging software, I've been thinking that it's quite static.  Although I might enjoy the way the current style is laid out, not everyone does. I'm now in the process of making the stylesheet almost completely customizable.  Keep your eyes out for a new button which will allow you to customize and personalize your ...

"Remnant of this people".  Talking straight to the American Indians.  heh..  I love the foresight. Guiltless...  I love that word.  He that is found guiltless.  Please note it does not say "sinless". To be found guiltless.  What would that entail?  Continual repentance would probably b...

I just got back from a wonderful evening spent with my wife, Shaun, Tiffy, Shane, and Becca.  We went to Weber State to see the annual drum core competition. Let me just say....  Amazing.  Yup...  Amazing....  That's what it was. It also got me to thinking about a lot of things.  For some reason lots of normal things...

I haven't posted many videos lately, primarily because KdenLive (my video editor in Linux) wouldn't run for more than 5 seconds without completely crashing - making it impossible for me to do any video editing.  I haven't had any success with any other video editors out there (including Cinelerra), so, I've been video-less. Anyway, KdenLive re...

Ya know...  Today was a good Sunday.  In church, we learned about trials, and the nature of them - why God gives them to us, and why we need them.  D&C 58 1-4 is a great reference if you're looking for some good stuff on trials.  We talked a lot about Zion's Camp, and the general tendency the early saints had toward generati...

I have written quite a bit about this chapter during previous years' studies.  To begin, I noticed this time that it is by the "spirit of prophecy" that Zeezrom's thoughts are made known to Alma and Amulek. I also noticed that during the buffeting these prophets delivered to Zeezrom, not one attack was personal.  They were sim...

I've been working a bit on adding the possibility of video journaling to ILoveMyJournal.com. I'm not 100% sure if it will work well enough for those who are less technically inclined, but today I was able to get a proof-of-concept working. One of my journal entries now has a video (the video is of the UVSC Car Show put on yesterday). Just to ...

I run a server in my home.  It's nothing more than a hobby-type server that runs gentoo Linux, a couple of web-sites, my myth-tv installation for my home-theater, and all the family files.  I also have about 150 compressed movies on there, all of which can certainly take up a lot of hard drive space. I started this project back in 2004...

Not sure why this caught my attention this time, but doesn't it seem a bit weird that Mormon was carried by his father when he was 11 years old?  It seems like he was carried on somewhat of a journey, too - to a different land.   Maybe his father was quite big and could accomplish such a task, because an 11-year-old isn't small enough to ...

Ya know...  I thought that with 4.5 hours of sleep last night, I'd feel a heckuva lot sleepier than I do.  I guess miracles do happen. Since our wonderful Samuel was born, my wife and I have been getting considerably less sleep than we otherwise would.  This is to be expected; it comes with the whole package of parenthood. I ha...

"Some are lost because they are different. They feel as though they don’t belong. Perhaps because they are different, they find themselves slipping away from the flock. They may look, act, think, and speak differently than those around them and that sometimes causes them to assume they don’t fit in. They conclude that they are not...

Last Saturday, I woke up much earlier than I should have in order to go down and help my good friend Scott wash his cars, in preparation for his selling them. After washing his other two cars, we decided to wash my car, and to be honest, I was a bit skeptical as to how this "great new car washing" system would work.  Well...  ...

So a little more than a year ago, I took my mustang out for the first time on the Salt Flats.  I had a blast out there with my good friend Steve. On the way home, Steve had some problems with salt lining his rims, causing some tire imbalance, so we  got off the freeway, I showed him what the problem was, and as I was getting back on th...

A couple of weeks ago, I spent some time in my car driving to and from Salt Lake City.  During the trip, I had the opportunity to listen to one of the best talks on Women's Roles in the LDS faith.  I was so impressed by the contents of this talk, I had to listen to the entire thing twice. Both times, both my heart and my eyes were fille...

Growing up, I'd have to say that I was a bit of a pious punk religiously, but I was so due, in large amount, to my being incredibly naive. To demonstrate my naive-ness, I really thought that being emotional was pretty much the same as being spiritual.  Yes...  Believe it.  I was naive. One other bit of heretical doctrine I beli...

I just got done making the video for this entry, so take a look if you've got a high speed Internet connection. Today was the 2nd day of the Ed Roth Memorial Reunion held in Manti, UT. There were finksters-a-plenty there on Friday, but even more on Saturday.  I lost count of how many Rat Finks I saw. So, because the days were packed, ...

I'm beyond exhausted right now, so I'll do my best to blog.  Not sure how it'll turn out, but... I woke up this morning around 4:45am to travel in a minivan full of family members to Denver Colorado to visit Owen, the newest member of the Craig and Annie Young family.  Our family, along with Chloe, Brandon, and Jovie made the trip. Th...

The new lamp for my projector arrived today and much rejoicing was heard among the land. Since our lamp burned out 5-8 months ago, we've been using a TV to entertain our kids, providing them with movies and TV cartoons and all the other goodness with which MythTV blesses our lives. With the return of our lamp, I wanted a way to extend the life ...

This talk really got me thinking about where my heart is. As I've grown older, my pet sins are still doing their best to have their portion of my heart dedicated to them.  I'm still doing my best to assure they don't. Often, I wonder how my life will differ in this aspect 5 or 10 years from now.  Will I still struggle with the same si...
