 So, I noticed I haven't blogged about studio things lately, and I need to get with it.

With that, let me just say this:

Yeah...  See that picture there?   One of those babies are now in use at Art City Sound, and although it's a bit preliminary right now, as I've only had it 1 day, I can with certainty say, "The drums from this studio will never sound the same again."

While reading the rave reviews about this preamp (and simultaneously getting a heart-attack at its price), I had my doubts about its claimed magical abilities to make everything sound better, but after listening to only one drum recording with it, I cannot express how much more clarity and impact this preamp has given my snare and kick.  I put the other two channels on the overheads, but didn't immediately hear much benefit there.  In time, I'll find where to put the other two (probably on two of the toms), but ....  I just can't believe how much better my snare sounded going through the API 3124+, with the same mic.  When I first heard it, I had to double-check that the under-snare mic hadn't accidentally been turned on, because it was so much clearer, and snappier, and punchier. (is that a word?)  I even used the same almost-dead snare head, too.  Anyway...  I very much am looking forward to working with this new piece of glorious hardware.

Enough of the techno-babble.  Since I last wrote, I've worked with quite a few bands....  Might I mention a few..

First, I've gotta tell ya that after MUCH ado, Lucid 8 has finally released their first single off their brand-new album, "Idle Revolution".  We've been working on this album for almost a year now, and it's been worth the wait.  "The Truth" is a hard-hitting rocker almost anyone can relate to, and you can listen to this single for free under the "LatestProjects" portion of our website here.  Idle Revolution was proudly tracked, edited, mixed, and mastered here at Art City Sound.

A few others who have been coming in, with albums on the way, include Chelsey Joy, a new-age artist who is collaborating with Art City Sound to produce her first EP, and has got to be one of the most unique albums ever to grace the studio.  Chelsey seems to have an innate ability to combine unique sounds to create a musical blend of darkness infused with hope.  As the engineer and co-producer, I often find myself trying to keep up with Chelsey's creativity and ideas that end up simply magical.

Other newcomers to the studio with albums on the way are Black Tie Event, Her Last Words, and Pushing 30.
