Mormon : 6
So... Here's a thought for ya. Mormon had seen the end of his people. He knew the Nephites were going to be destroyed, and not only that, he knew how and when they were going to be destroyed. Verse 6 confirms this by relating, "...and knowing it to be the last struggle of my people". He knew his people were going to be destroyed there.
I'm not so sure I could walk my people to their death. I guess the foreknowledge of God trumps all, and Mormon had seen it through the Spirit of God, so he knew there was no other way. But still, man, that would be tough.
...and then comes the end, when a sum total of 230,000 Nephites (minus 24, and a few others) were slaughtered by countless Lamanites. The wicked fighting the wicked, left to their own strength because they would not trust in God.
What a tragic waste.
