4th Nephi
So, it's been awhile since I last wrote about the scriptures, but the fight to the end continues! I'm in Las Vegas right now for a conference, and what better way to start my day in sin city than to read the holy words of God?
4th Nephi has always been an amazing chapter to me. I would like to capture in my mind's eye, the way people lived during the beginning verses. All things in common, no evil, every living soul a member of the true church of Christ, no happier people living among all the children of God. Must have been a very, very good time to live out life, and it lasted for approximately 200 years.
...and then, of course, it all went to extreme wickedness.
Beginning by a small group "revolting against the church". Then dividing themselves into classes based on wealth, creating false Gods and churches. Persecution of the real followers of Christ. Great division among the people - "good vs. bad". 60 years after the initial revolt, Gadianton rears his ugly head again - murdering and secret combinations to keep wickedness safe. Wickedness spreading throughout out both sides, Nephites and Lamanites. and then getting so bad that the records of God need to be hidden because no man can keep them safe.
Going from a Christ-like utopian society to complete and total wickedness in a little more than 100 years. That's actually not too bad considering other times in Book of Mormon history, but it definitely is the most polar.
Gotta run now. Great chapter.
