The first thing I noticed this time, is that apparently, Helaman had never had any proof of the existence of the plates of gold Alma and the previous prophets were writing on. Not entirely sure why that caught my fancy this time, but it did. I guess keeping the historical records was a pretty sacred thing back then. I wonder if there are any sacred records being kept today, which are not publicly known. It'd be interesting to know.
Also, the use of the word "perceive" caught my attention. Alma, even though he announced that he was going to prophesy before Helaman, didn't use the word "prophesy". I've found that this is a common thing with seers. I wonder if it's a modesty thing...
The actual prophecy which Alma relayed to Helaman would have broken my heart. How could you see the destruction of your entire nation, and remain emotionless? I wonder if he was... I also wonder what today's prophets know, regarding the future of our nation... Hmm....
Also, in verse 16, The Lord blesses and curses this land, insomuch that anyone who is ripe with iniquity will be wiped out. Wow... This isn't
the only place where this is mentioned in scripture, either. Makes me wonder how close we are now to being "ripe". Seems like it can't be too far off.... especially when I visit places like Las Vegas.
Good chapter.
