I recently wrote
a piece about how much I miss the things that used to come so easily before I had children.
Although everything I wrote is true, writing that article caused me to reflect on how lucky I am to be a parent at all.
The things which I now miss due to parenthood are luxuries related to selfishness. The things I enjoy because of parenthood are things which I never had, nor could I have, if I didn't have children. I'm also given quite a few opportunities to exercise attributes which make me a better person - less selfish. Any parent who doesn't have more patience because of kids (realizing it or not, because sometimes it feels as if the edge of sanity is closer than ever), simply isn't involved with them enough.
Some of the sweet moments I get to live almost every day of my life, which my life as a single person never brought me are the following:
Enough said.
Yes, parents live a hard life, but in my humble opinion... not many other things in life outweigh the opportunity I have of being "daddy".
