Gen. Conf. - Soul Delighteth - Tanner
I just finished reading the talk "My Soul Delighteth in the Things of the Lord", and it was a good talk.
It made me think of my own upbringing, and the upbringing of my children. I loved the following statement:
"I delight that I am a daughter of Heavenly Father, who loves me. I learned of my divine identity in my earliest years at my mother’s side. Just recently I saw my then three-year-old granddaughter learning her identity from her mother. Eliza had gone to bed distraught. She could be comforted only as her mother again told Eliza’s favorite true story about the special night when Heavenly Father distinctly and clearly whispered to her mommy’s heart that Eliza was a special spirit with a noble mission ahead."
I remember when I was about 5 or 6 years old, tugging on my mom's skirt at church and saying to her, "Heavenly Father loves me, doesn't he.", and my mom saying "Yes, Jason, he does."
It causes me to wonder how I can instill the same love in my children as I was blessed to have. I wonder what the best way would be to let them know how individually special they are, and that each one of them is a God or Goddess in embryo - complete with their own divine nature.
Yup... It's definitely time to start putting these ideas in action. It'll only be a few moments before all my children are off on their own, making their own decisions, and reaping their own consequences.
I've got to make sure I do everything I can to assure those consequences lead to happiness in this life and eternal life after this one.
