2nd Nephi : 25
It feels quite refreshing to be able to understand more than just a couple of verses again. As I was reading tonight, I realized how much could be written about this chapter. It's quite full of good doctrine.
Here's what I noticed tonight:
From verse 1 until 6, Nephi seems to be trying to explain the "hard to understand" nature of the writings of Isaiah. Seems that it had something to do with the workings of the Jews, and our not knowing them. He does mention, however, that the person filled with the "spirit of prophecy", the writings of Isaiah are easy to understand.
I find verse 16 interesting because it truly is a prophecy. Nephi saw that the Jews would not accept Christ as the Messiah, and thus be looking for "another Messiah", well into the thousands of years after the coming of Christ. And this was written about 550 years before Christ even came.
Verse 20, of course, is a great one. Explaining, without error, the one way to salvation: Jesus Christ.
Then there's 23, which does an excellent job of explaining the necessity of both grace and good works: "it is by grace that we are saved after all we can do."
Verses 29 and 30 do a great job of explaining the doctrine of what is required for salvation: Worshipping Christ with all our might, mind, strength, and soul. I interpret that as giving my own personal 100%.
Great chapter.
