Good Friends and Nature
So Jeff Petersen is a guy with whom I've been friends for years.  I hadn't seen him in probably as long.  We went to BYU together, were roommates, and had summer jobs in California together.  We got along very well...

But then we each got married, he moved to Missouri, and that was that...    ...until two days ago.

I had the pleasure of spending the evening with him and his family.  His kids were just as I thought they'd be.  Very cordial, fun, and easy to get along with.  My kids loved them.

When night came, and they were going to leave, I found out that Jeff was going to spend some time up Diamond Fork Canyon, and when he offered to have me tag along, I couldn't refuse.

So, around midnight, we drove up to the Three Forks trail, and headed up with some light daypacks, and water.  We talked about everything from religion to politics to music, and I found myself enjoying every minute of it.

I've been wanting to sleep under the stars for weeks now, and that's exactly what we did.  We fell asleep watching the moon under the shadows of huge pine trees, while the rushing of the river 15 feet away droned on.

Nothing spectacular happened, and by and large, it went un-noticed by everyone but us...  But for me, it was a testament to life-long friendships and good people.

My family thanks you and your family for spending the evening with us...  And I thank you for renewing in me the beauty that nature really is.
