Alma : 27
What a great chapter this is.  And what stupid people the Amalekites were.  "Gee, we're having a hard time killing our enemies, so let's kill our own people instead.  Yeah, that'll make us feel better."  Freakin' idiots.

The parts I loved especially about this chapter were parts I've never noticed before, or at least I don't think I've noticed.

1. - When the sons of Mosiah set out to teach the Lamanites, we have accounts saying that their brethren in the land of the Nephites basically laughed at them, saying things like, "There ain't NO WAY you're gonna convert anyone over there!  Dang, boy, are you daft?"  So, yeah...  Being mocked as they left must have been a pre-cursor as to what would happen when they came back 14 years later.  I can imagine what they must have thought when the sons of Mosiah came back, alone, and sought out the king.  Then later, the king's proclamation to the people,

"People of this great land, my brothers, Ammon and his brethren converted 5 entire cities of the Lamanites to the truth, and now they want to come live with us because their own people are declaring war against them."

Yeah, who's laughing now?  I can only imagine the prick in the hearts of those who mocked the sons of Mosiah when thousands upon thousands of converted Lamanites came in to inherit an entire city of the Nephites, and later came to be a great boon to their nation.  I guess the Lord was right when he said "Fools mock, but they shall mourn"  - even for the righteous.

So, anyway...  I thought that was interesting.

The 2nd point I really loved was the meeting of Alma and the sons of Mosiah, and how they later, after the Nephites were okay with them living in their city, all went out to meet in the wilderness.

It says that Alma and the sons of Mosiah related their conversion stories to the Lamanites, and that they all felt the spirit abundantly.

How wonderful that must have been.  Just now I'm realizing that both sets of people were in the exact same position when the Lord sent his servants to teach them.  Alma and the sons of Mosiah were out destroying the church of God when the angel came, and the Lamanites were suffering spiritual darkness due to the traditions of their fathers.  How beautiful that connection and friendship must have been while they all basically said, "Ya know, guys, we were once just like you were.  We were lost, and actively trying to destroy God's church, when, in God's mercy, he sent his angel down to show us the error of our ways."  Lots of times our missionaries are the very angels of God, sent to declare unto nations the error of their ways.

I love the work of God.  What a great chapter this was.
