The new lamp for my projector arrived today and much rejoicing was heard among the land.
Since our lamp burned out 5-8 months ago, we've been using a TV to entertain our kids, providing them with movies and TV cartoons and all the other goodness with which MythTV blesses our lives.
With the return of our lamp, I wanted a way to extend the life of our projector (the last bulb only lasted a year due to 2-3 hours of daily morning cartoon watching by our children). With some quick googling, I found a couple of things:
- gentoo-wiki.com lost their database some time ago. What a tragedy. I loved that site. Hopefully they'll build themselves back up again quick.
- Nvidia can do twinview through the SVideo port and the DVI port (or for any other port on the back of the video card, for that matter)
I quickly found some configurations that worked, and honed it down to a xorg.conf file which suits my purposes exactly.
The following conf file will direct output to my DVI-connected 1024x768 projector, and at the same time, send an appropriate signal to my piece of crap CRT 20" TV... This allows me to turn off the projector at any given time and leave it off while the kids use the same MythTV system to watch cartoons all day long on the TV. A month later, I can easily come down, turn on the projector, and enjoy some quality cinema.
Good times! Here's a couple of screenshots, along with the conf file.
And here's the relevant portion of the conf file:
