Gen. Conf. - Exam. of Right. - Monson
I'm so disappointed in the way things played out this last April.  I just finished reading President Monson's talk, and thus concluded the Priesthood session, and I so would loved to have been there.  But the past is the past, and I should consider myself grateful to be able to read the words after-the-fact.

One paragraph of this talk caught my attention:

"My young friends, be strong. The philosophies of men surround us. The face of sin today often wears the mask of tolerance. Do not be deceived; behind that facade is heartache, unhappiness, and pain. You know what is right and what is wrong, and no disguise, however appealing, can change that. The character of transgression remains the same. If your so-called friends urge you to do anything you know to be wrong, you be the one to make a stand for right, even if you stand alone. Have the moral courage to be a light for others to follow. There is no friendship more valuable than your own clear conscience, your own moral cleanliness—and what a glorious feeling it is to know that you stand in your appointed place clean and with the confidence that you are worthy to do so."

I love that quote.  It brings back all sorts of childhood memories, back when standing for what I thought was right was much more emphasized in my life.

Did such emphasis, I wonder, come from my focus on it back then, or a lack thereof in my life now?

Whatever the case may be, I find myself looking at too many instances in my life now where I have made exceptions for whatever reason, which I would not have tolerated at all in my youth.

What a wonderful talk to inspire me to dig my heels in and value that which has value, and cast off the frivilous blather of my life.

I love this church and the manner in which it is guided.  I love that Jesus Christ himself is at its helm, and that fact is made more and more obvious to me as I study and research modern revelation.

Such is the beauty of God, and my joy is in gratitude for the blessings which He gives me, the likes of which are countless.
