Jacob : 5
The first thing I thought of when I read this chapter, besides, "Holy moly, it's like almost midnight and I'm gonna dive into Jacob 5??", was the following:
In Jacob 4:1, he states how hard it was for them to keep plates, due to the difficulty in engraving. Well.... With that in mind, I asked myself, "How important is Jacob 5?"
I mean, it's like one of the longest single allegories in all of scripture, and Jacob decides to write it with great detail. Must be quite important.
Anyway... Some stuff I noticed this time around .....
Verse 47 had a very interesting word. That word is "almost". I don't have time to check it, but I can't think of any other reference of God stretching his arm out, where the word "almost" was incorporated with how long he had it out. It's kind of odd, if you ask me. Why would God put, "and I have stretched forth mine hand almost al the day long..." instead of just ommiting the word "almost"?
I'll have to study that one out.
Then, of course, there's the references to the Nephites and Lamanites which fascinates me as to the reason a prophet of old (Zenos) would highlight their generations with as much detail as he did.
Then there's the big last push at the end, referencing the latter-day missionary work.
It's all very good stuff.
I've just got to read it all earlier in the day. I'm about ready to fall asleep!
