1st Nephi : 8
I'm not in the mood to write much, but since it's a goal, I'll keep it.
One thing I noticed and had a question about was why Nephi, Sariah, and Sam didn't know where to go in Lehi's dream. Verse 14 lays it out quite plainly.
The first thing that came to mind was Lehi was the leader of the family. He was the director and it was his duty to see that they knew which way to go to gain eternal life. He also was called to be a prophet, thus making him a leader of many more people than just his family. Not sure, but I definitely saw some similarities.
The second thought I had was "maybe it's because it was just a dream, and weird things happen in a dream." ... Again - not sure.
Also, it might be for the sake of brevity, but for Sam, Nephi, and Sariah, no mention was made of a mist of darkness through which they had to pass. Nothing was said other than they came and ate of the fruit. The mist of darkness was talked about later on while mentioning the numberless concourses of people trying to find the rod of iron. Interesting.
Verse 34 should catch everyone's eye. Starting out, we know that Nephi is quoting his father Lehi. He then sums up and says that he doesn't need to write everything out. He then says "These are the words of my father:" My spiritual sense perk up and read the simple yet profound words after: For as many as heeded them, had fallen away. Really quite simple. At least it is to me:
If you heed the people who are mocking you for choosing the right, it's only a matter of time until you head down the same paths they do.
Anyway... That's all for tonight.
