Book of Mormon Intro.
This entry begins the documenting of my studies of the Book of Mormon in my "journal".  One of my new year's resolutions for 2008 is to read, study, and write about every chapter in the Book of Mormon.  I figured today was as good a time as any to begin.

And so I begin with the Introduction of the Book of Mormon.

---

I never noticed how, in the introduction, it states that the Bible contains the fulness of the everlasting Gospel, but it does.  I find that curious - however - in the 9th article of faith, we also state that while translated correctly, we do believe the Bible to be the word of God.  Nothing ever states that it doesn't contain the fulness of it.  I've never really thought of that.

---

While reading the introduction, my mind wandered to something someone told me about a modern-day Apostle.  I'm not sure why I thought of this, or who told me what I'm about to write, but I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to write something about it.

Some modern-day Apostle, I'm thinking it was Richard G. Scott, has a tradition, each time he starts reading the Book of Mormon fresh.  He buys a new Book of Mormon, and keeps notes in the sidelines and such, attaching quotes and pictures as the spirit directs.  He then, when finished, gives it to one of his grandchildren as a birthday or Chirstmas gift.

What a gift that would be! Can you imagine?  Wow....

I'm not exactly sure why I thought that, but because I believe in inspiration, I thought I'd write it down.

---

Continuing with the "Testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith", I'm interested in the words Joseph Smith chose as he wrote what happened that night.  I haven't personally met Joseph Smith, but I've read enough scripture to know that inspiration is translated into specific words.  Words chosen for a purpose.

Joseph Smith said referring to the mandate received to not show the plates to anyone, save those whom he should be commanded to show.  He said "if I did [show the plates to anyone else] I should be destroyed.

That word, coming from an Angel of God would certainly cause me a desire to hearken to what he or she was saying.  Interesting that in Alma 36:9, it also uses the same word: "If thou wilt of thyself be destroyed, seek no more to destroy the church of God."

I guess God doesn't really mix words.    Interesting...

---

Interesting to note that according to Joseph Smith's words, the angel Moroni didn't descend from heaven when appearing, but seemingly simply appeared out of light.  Upon leaving however, he did not simply disappear.  He ascended into heaven through a conduit of light.  Not sure why I thought of this, but I found it curious.
