What IS the Gospel of Christ?
I just returned from a family vacation at "Down-At-A" water-park with all my immediate family (minus Andrea) and had a blast.

During the evening of the first night, the discussion was lulling a bit, so Curtis and I decided to begin discussing some doctrinal points of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

During this discussion, both Curtis and I became quite passionate about different things we believed to be true.  Now, normally when two people become passionate about religion, it usually includes contention.  Curtis is the only person on earth with whom I can debate passionately without becoming contentious.  It's very weird, and has taken time to be able to do it, but... we can sit and all but yell, and remain friends and competent with one another.  Very strange indeed.

Anyway...  The main underlying point which I took from this debate after it was over (which in and of itself was never actually debated) is the following:

What is the Gospel of Christ?

I'm finding out that the majority of my family has a very different definition of what the "Gospel" is, which is very surprising to me.

Apart from the whole discussion we had, and also apart from my family's beliefs, I ask this question:

What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

Me?  What do I think it is?  Well...  I take the Gospel to be the teachings and doctrines of Jesus Christ.  I believe it to have certain covenants and principles which govern the lives of those who believe and partake of this Gospel.

I believe these teachings, principles, and covenents to be found written down by prophets and apostles who dwelt with, knew of, received revelation from, and abided by Jesus Christ himself.  (Not only in the past, but also in the present day)

Now... How do we learn of and partake of this Gospel?  I believe there is only one way, which to me is quite obvious.

We've got find those writings and learn them, or talk to people who know them and live by them.  We've got to indoctrinate ourselves with these principles and do our best to live them.

Does this not make sense?  Is there any other way to come to know the Gospel of Jesus Christ?  Do the teachings just come to our minds?  Do we already know the Gospel of Jesus Christ by our nature?  Are we born with the knowledge of the gospel of Christ?  Common sense tells me this is not the case.

If we are not born with it, then it makes sense that we learn it.

And that is the only way we can claim that we live it.

Nothing more than my own personal opinion, but it makes tons of sense to me.
