My Dearest Collin
I was just up holding you, Collin. You awoke for some reason after we put you to bed, and I decided to be the one to go see what was the matter.
As I picked up your stiff body, muscles taught by some uknown fear, I sensed a connection between you and I which I haven't felt before.
You put your little head on my shoulder and continued to rid yourself of whatever was stressing you, and as you did, I must say the connection I felt grew.
It grew until flashes of some future point came into my mind. Flashes of you as a wonderful young man. A powerful young man. A handsome young man accomplishing some goal you set your mind to. I looked up at you in admiration as we embraced and shared happiness as well as a special bond between father and son. You and me, Collin.
I don't know why you chose us to be your parents. More specifically, I don't know why you chose me as a father, but right now - you being alive a mere 17 months, I sense greatness in you. I sense your fiery determination to set out on life to improve upon it and everything around you. Indeed, Collin, I sense greatness in you.
May you always know that your father felt this way, on this day, while cradling your little body - trying to soothe whatever ailment held you.
Thank you for coming to our family.
Dad
