The scientific method can't prove everything.
Okay, okay... I do understand that there is a ton of good that has been brought about by the scientific method, but seriously, people; is that the *only* way to prove something is true? Wow. In my opinion, we've really limited ourselves if we think that's the only way to "prove" the truth of something.
I just (finally) finished D&C 76, and man - what a treat that section is. Even more so than I thought the previous times I've read it. I say that because there is a true gem of a verse in there that has nothing to do with the Celestial, Terrestrial, or Telestial kingdoms.
Starting in verse 113, as the vision closes, Joseph Smith goes on to talk about some other "mysteries" of the kingdom they were shown, but not allowed to write. What comes next really is a doozie of a verse, relating to the depth of doctrine it contains.
Verse 116 states, in reference to these "mysteries" of God, "...neither is man capable to make them known..." Holy cow! Did I read that right? Am I
sure I just read that there are things in this world that cannot be proven by man? Something that man is
incapable of making known.... to.... anyone? Wow. Yup. I think that's what it means, anyway.
So..... What of this "scientific method" which has been used so profusely, it has become the bar by which all things are "proven"? And if it can't be proven by the scientific method, then by darnit, it must not be true. Bullhonkey. That's exactly what it is - bullhonkey. Ya know why!? Let's continue with that verse.
"neither is man capable to make them known,
for they are only to be seen and understood by the power of the Holy Spirit".
Wow. This very well could mean, if I'm interpreting this correctly, that people who rely on nothing more than science, while totally disregarding the spiritual aspect of life, will be "incapable" to understand them. Pretty tough medicine there, buddy-boy.
There are
other scriptures which contain
miraculous situations denoting things that
"cannot be written, neither can they be uttered by man" as well.
Bottom line: If you're not feeding your spiritual side as well as your "scientific" side, you're quite possibly missing out on a
large portion of truth which, by scientific means, cannot be "proven", or for that matter, even
understood.
